CTP — The Lewis College
A professional education certificate designed for bachelor’s degree holders who wish to qualify as professional teachers in the Philippines — and earn the right to sit for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
What is the CTP?
The Certificate in Teaching Program (CTP) is a non-degree professional education program offered by The Lewis College under the College of Teacher Education. It is open to graduates who hold a bachelor’s degree in any field outside of education and who wish to pursue a career in teaching.
Under Republic Act 7836 (the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act, as amended), non-education graduates who complete a minimum of 18 units of professional education subjects are eligible to take the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). The TLC CTP is structured around this framework, covering 18 to 31 units depending on the student’s target level and personal learning plan.
Delivered by experienced faculty from TLC’s College of Teacher Education, the CTP combines theoretical foundations with reflective practice — developing educators who are not only technically prepared, but also grounded in the values of Faith, Service, and Personhood.
Eligibility & Admission Requirements
The CTP is open to any Filipino citizen who holds a bachelor’s degree from a recognized higher education institution — in any discipline other than education.
- Holder of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized or accredited higher education institution
- Degree must be in a field other than Education (e.g., Business, Engineering, Sciences, Arts, Nursing)
- Must not yet hold a professional teaching license (LPT)
- Willing to comply with all CTP academic and attendance requirements
- Endorsement or recommendation from a previous institution (if transferring)
- Original and photocopy of Official Transcript of Records (OTR)
- Photocopy of Bachelor’s Degree Diploma
- PSA-authenticated Birth Certificate
- Certificate of Good Moral Character (from last institution attended)
- Medical Certificate from a licensed physician
- 2×2 ID Photos (4 copies, white background)
- Duly accomplished TLC Application Form
- 2 pieces long brown envelope
Professional Education Subjects
The CTP covers nine professional education subjects aligned with the CHED-prescribed curriculum for teacher preparation. The first six subjects constitute the 18-unit minimum required for LET eligibility. Students may extend their program to include all subjects for a more comprehensive teaching foundation.
Professional identity, ethics, and the legal foundations of teaching in the Philippine context. Explores the rights, responsibilities, and social role of the teacher.
Developmental stages from early childhood through adolescence, and their implications for instructional design, classroom management, and learner support.
Sociological, cultural, historical, and political forces that shape schooling in the Philippines, including multicultural education and inclusive classroom practices.
Principles and models of curriculum design, planning, and evaluation — including competency-based approaches and alignment with national learning standards.
Traditional and authentic assessment strategies, construction of tests, rubrics, and portfolio systems. Includes principles of grading and feedback for student growth.
Major learning theories and their classroom application. Covers motivation, metacognition, and the design of learner-centered environments for diverse student needs.
Foundations of lesson planning, instructional sequencing, and classroom management. Introduces evidence-based strategies for direct and inquiry-based instruction.
Advanced instructional methodologies including cooperative learning, problem-based learning, and differentiated instruction for heterogeneous classrooms.
Integration of digital tools, multimedia, and online platforms into contemporary classroom instruction. Covers responsible and effective use of technology for teaching and learning.
